Intel's Slashdot.org Forum Presents Opportunities For Publishers & Advertisers

At the Boston Social Media Club tonight I met Jon Radoff from GuildCafe Entertainment, Inc. A company dedicated to developing social media resources for the alternative identities of gamers. Jon had asked a question in the open session of tonight's panel discussion; Jon had wanted to know what resources his company should provide to brand marketers. I had followed up on his question and we got chatting about social media in general. One interesting business model he mentioned was what Intel recently did on Slashdot.org. Intel sponsored a forum section on the Slashdot.org site instead of paying for advertising on the site. I thought this was a very interesting idea, and one that other companies should consider as a way to reach customers but through two way communication rather than just traditional advertising.
