I was talking with an old friend last night about my book, we had not seen one another for a while, and we were catching up. He asked me about the details of the blog, sales etc. In explaining the content, I told him that the book was not as relevant today as when it was first published in 2007, but that in some ways the book was even more relevant than ever.
The book, Strategies and Tools for Corporate Blogging may have lost some of its value because blogging has certainly progressed in the last few years in terms of tools and tactics. But I think the real value of the book resides in the main idea that blogging and social media is an opportunity for companies to practice all elements of marketing.
To me marketing is not just the process of taking a product and selling more stuff. Instead marketing is the process of listening to customers, determining people's needs and serving those needs and wants efficiently and profitably, so marketing to me is the process of listening, and selling more stuff.
Content marketing often seems to me to be a sales strategy, there’s no design to listen, while older ideas and theories embrace the concept of using social media to listen and conduct a dialogue. So if you are a marketer and want to listen, my book Strategies for corporate blogging is for you.
