Old Fashioned Networking In Linkedin.com
Many recruiters use linkedin.com for sourcing candidates. Piling up contacts with the aim to develop a large group of friends and contacts. Yet if your contacts don't know you very well, when it comes time to message them, the effort will probably fall on deaf ears, one because a job request is the wrong fit, and two because the "friend" does not know you well enough to recommend a friend to your job.
How do you overcome a lack of connection with your linkedin.com contacts in the world of social media?
You spend some time really connecting with people. Find out something about your contacts, try to help them, give them something of value, and in return when you ask for something people will feel more inclined to repay the kindness.
Here are a few tips:
1) Email or call your contacts once a month to ask them how they are doing, have no additional motive.
2) You talk with candidates all day, some of them you can help, some not, listen to their questions about how to improve their resume and interviewing techniques. Use Linkedin.com answers tab to help answer their questions. One you will establish yourself as a thought leader in recruiting, and two you have your candidate’s questions answered by the community.
3) Help your candidates find a job, even if it’s not at your company, if someone’s goal is a job, they will remember you if you gave them suggestions and tips for job hunting. You will market your personal brand as a recruiter and give your company a boost in the eyes of your candidates. Believe it or not recruiting is also part of your company’s marketing department. Today’s candidate might well be tomorrow’s customer.
