Boston Companies Don't Have The Zing For Social Media, Yet

Boston doesn’t have the same Zing as other parts of the country. At least that's what one attendee at the Boston Social Media club told me tonight. Apparently companies are more conservative and are not really buying into social media in the same way that companies in other part of the country are. San Francisco was mentioned, and New York.

My fellow attendee had recently arrived in the area from the Big Apple. Baseball aside, I was puzzled by the pronouncement, as there are lots of companies in the area that are conducting social media and blogging. In fact I'd say Boston one of the most important areas in the country for thinking in the area of social media. But when it comes to paying clients and companies who can pony up the money for investing in social media there are few companies to be found in Boston. This does not ring true with me, but what do other people think about Boston and its acceptance of social media in the corporate sector?

Oh, by the way, I also thought that Palo Alto and Silicon Valley are more into social media than San Francisco, I used to live in the city in 1995, the city was know for insurance, banking, but not much tech at the time. The Valley was much bigger, in fact with 35% of the US’s venture capital, and a list of technology companies that is long, it’s the best place on the planet for technology and social media. San Francisco and its nearby neighbors is bigger in Biotech, with Genentech and others.
